Lock Poker Lockops CancelledGiven that there are so many major promotions, tournaments and events taking place in the world of online poker, it takes something special to get people to sit up and take notice. This was definitely the case with the LOCKOPS promotion that was being heavily promoted by the Lock Poker site.

This looked to have the makings of a major tournament both financially and with respect to the kudos that would be on offer to the players who emerged triumphant at the end. With the chance to win seats at some of the biggest tournaments in world poker also up for grabs, it is easy to see why so many poker players were looking forward to this event.

Big event cancelled

Sadly, all of these plans have been cancelled with the announcement that the LOCKOPS tournament will not be taking place. The following message appeared on the site;

“We are sad to announce that Merge has officially cancelled LOCKOPS and revoked previous approval given to Lock to run the series.”

“We have all been working very hard to put this together for our players and our marketing partners and are gutted to have it pulled out from under us at this late stage.”

At this moment in time, there has been no clarification why the tournament has been cancelled and there is no suggestion that Merge will announce any reason at a later date. This is their prerogative and obviously they set the rules for poker sites operating under their banner. However, you wonder what sort of long-term impact this will have for players and of course, between Lock Poker and Merge itself. Lock must have spent a lot of time, effort and money in pulling this promotion together but something has obviously changed since they first got the go ahead from Merge Gaming to run the promotion.
